Last Tuesday I saw Amon Tobin perform in Brooklyn, it was pretty incredible. Tobin is an electronic artist currently touring his latest album. For the show, he performs inside of a large boxy structure, while video + imagery synced with the music is projected over the top. If you’d like a visual, here’s the trailer.
Inspired, I’ve decided to start down the path of sound visualization. Amit Pitaru, instructor of our Slow Code class, has been encouraging me to explore making ‘useless’ things, to learn how to be playful with code again. Above are images from my first attempt. I’m using Processing and a violin sample from Everything to Me. As the clip plays, the pink discs flicker as they respond to the amplitude of various frequency bands.
